Deputy traffic police: Illegal speed is one of the main reasons of road accidents


Deputy traffic police of the country said that illegal speed is one of the main reasons of road accidents, adding some 60 Iranians die per day in the road accidents, of then near 30 percent are 18-29 years old which is the generative age.

Colenel Mousa Amiri further noted that some 170 persons die per day in the country,of them 35 percent dies in driving accidents.

Over 23,000 persons die in driving accidents in the country in the previous year,he announced adding illegal speed accounts for over 27 percent of the accidents.

In terms of the role of speed management in reducing road accidents, he said that balance should be made between safely and utility of vehicle and this is performed through control and supervision conducted by the police and institutionalizing and establishing self-control mechanism.

He referred to boosting safely, reducing critical effects, decreasing  road accidents and their effects as the main objectives of speed management and noted that high traffic is one of the common effects of high speed in the roads which leads to air pollution, fuel misuse and mental problems.

The official commented that speed management is achieved through limiting speed, training and institutionalizing, applying smart technology and enforcing rules and regulations and stated that unfortunately speed limitations in the roads have not been still specified according to the seasons and weather conditions in our country, for example if legal speed is 5 kilometers during the winter in a road, it should be changed in the other seasons.

Amiri pointed to the law as the second important factor in controlling speed in the roads and noted that installing black box inside the vehicles is one of the good suggestions under investigation.

It is worth mentioning that Captain Houshang  Shahbazi , who controlled Boeing 727 Aircraft and saved the lives of 94 passengers and 19 flight crews on October 19, 2011, was honored in the end of this gathering.
